# tmux-ide 2.9.8

> Reliable pane discovery and improved kitty graphics compatibility for the native macOS alpha.

`2.9.8` improves pane discovery after window creation and splitting, and updates
the graphics path used by the separately distributed native macOS alpha.

## New windows and splits

A new window could appear in tmux while the native app reported that its pane was
unavailable. Pane discovery now waits briefly for the new window's identity to
settle, accepting it only after two consecutive inventory reads agree. A topology
that keeps changing still fails safely.

## Images in terminal panes

The bundled tmux now refuses unsupported file and shared-memory graphics probes,
allowing clients to choose inline image data. Redrawing an image keeps its
placements, and root-frame edits update the displayed pixels.

Compressed image frames stay compressed until the native app decodes them on a
worker. Superseded frames are discarded, and the previous decoded image remains
visible while the next frame loads. Transparent image regions no longer reveal
placeholder glyphs underneath.

Fractional cell dimensions reach the bundled tmux so graphics clients avoid
accumulated rounding error on scaled displays. Cursor images are clipped at pane
edges; capture reseeds keep their anchors only when dimensions and history
coordinates are unchanged.

These changes require the matching native app as well as the updated daemon.
The terminal app does not display images. See [native alpha setup](/docs/native-alpha)
for the supported build and installation command.

## Updating

Update through your existing installation method. For the managed installation:

```bash
curl -fsSL https://tmux-ide.com/install.sh | sh
```

Updating the CLI does not replace a running tmux server or update environment
variables in existing shells. See [images after an upgrade](/docs/native-alpha#images-after-an-upgrade)
for graphics setup without interrupting running sessions.

The native app has a [separate update path](/docs/native-alpha#update-roll-back-or-uninstall).
Existing tmux sessions are preserved.
